What does it mean to be a migrant, asylum seeker or refugee?

There is a clear difference between migrant, asylum seeker and refugee. Read the explanations below:

Migrant: a person who moves from one place or another, to find work or better living conditions.

Asylum seeker: a person who has fled their home nation because of war or other reasons which threaten their lives.

Refugee: An asylum seeker whose claim to become a refugee has been accepted by the host country. This means they are granted refugee status and have the right to live and work in the UK.

It is important to note that over 90% of asylum seeker claims are approved and then the applicants are granted refugee status.
