Cognitive Reframing

Consider the times in your life where negative emotions have been beneficial for you in the long run? Maybe you were bored in a job, or frustrated with someone in a relationship. Whatever it was, consider the following:

  1. What did it feel like? What emotions did you experience?
  2. Why?
  3. What did you do about it?
  4. What positive outcome did your action bring about?

This process is the very start of learning how to cognitively reframe a situation. A few simple steps can help you process the negative emotion you are experiencing and utilise it to find a more positive outcome.
