Do

Write down OTHERING on a piece of paper. Work with your partner or group and think of examples where marginalised groups might experience being ‘othered’. You don’t have to think of examples exclusively about race, you can include gender, sexuality or any example where a member of a marginalised group might be othered. See if you can come up with 5 examples. 

EG: 

A Muslim may feel othered when they are told they cannot celebrate Eid at school and Christmas is the only celebrated religious festival. 

After you have your 5, take a different colour of pen/pencil. Write down how you could help to resolve the situation. 

EG: 

All religious festivals are acknowledged and can be celebrated in school. RME takes the opportunity to teach about different religious festivals around the world to different year groups.
