There are a few tried and tested approaches to helping alleviate exam stress.

Reflect on the approaches below. Which do you think would work for you and how would you use it in an exam situation? Why not share your thoughts in a group?

1. Prepare well

2. Watch your self-talk

3. Visualise Success

4. Use relaxation strategies such and breathing or mindfulness

5. Stay Physically healthy

6. Arrive Early

7. Do all you can to maintain focus, and use strategies such as sharpening your pencil, asking yourself a question or taking deep breaths if you feel your anxiety rising.

8. Accept a little anxiety – a little anxiety is a good thing! It can help to motivate you and keep you focussed.

9. Expect setbacks – they are normal in life, not everything goes to plan the first time round.

10.  Reward yourself –  plan a reward for after the test, take some time to relax and try not to dwell on any mistakes.
