Check your unconscious bias

To become aware of conscious biases we must test them. We don’t only hold unconscious biases about race, we hold them about many factors such as age, gender, weight, religion, disability. These biases are damaging to people and it is everyone’s responsibility to challenge these biases. To do that, we must recognise what biases we hold.

Psychologists at Harvard, the University of Virginia and the University of Washington created Project Implicit to develop Hidden Bias Tests, an Implicit Association test to measure unconscious bias.

This link will take you to the Harvard Implicit Bias test where you can take a range of short tests to check your unconscious biases. These cover gender, age, race, sexuality, weight, religion, disability to name just a few.

Take some time to complete the tests and explore the unconscious biases you hold.

Did you find you had any surprising unconscious biases? Discuss with your classmates.
