Assessment

Candidates who successfully complete VIBE for Middle Leaders will be awarded GTCS Professional Recognition in self-evaluation.

Detailed below are the assessments that form the course as well as guidance to support you in completing these assessments.

 

Reflective Journal

You will be asked to keep a reflective journal throughout the programme. We recommend that you complete no less than 2 per month of the programme. These are beneficial as it helps you not only to reflect on your progress throughout the programme but can also help to inform your practitioners enquiry. There are two compulsory reflective journals that must be submitted throughout the course of the programme.

Reflective Journal 1.

A critically reflective journal entry on your transition into your middle leadership role. This should include a concise introduction setting out the current context for your leadership development drawing on your professional biography.

Select one theme that will enable you to critically analyse your leadership development drawing upon the theory and concepts from YOUR VIBE and LEGACY workshops, e.g. FLOW, situational leadership, or creating high performing teams.

1000 word count.

Where relevant you may draw upon readings and literature around the key concepts and principles underpinning the course.

Assessment Criteria for Compulsory Reflective Journals

You are expected to demonstrate critical reflection, depth and rigor in line with the below key Professional Standards for Middle Leaders.

2.2.2 Understand and demonstrate self-awareness and inspire and motivate others.

2.2.4 Communicate Effectively

3.4.1 Develop and Sustain a range of inclusive and supportive relationships, processes and practices which promote a culture of self-evaluation in line with agreed strategic and operational priorities.

Critically reflect on what you believe it means to Flourish from the following  three perspectives:

  • Your school
  • Your team
  • You 

Examine how critical reflection on these aspects impacts your leadership development and impacts your leadership practices and school improvement.

1000 word count.

Where relevant you may draw upon readings and literature around the key concepts and principles underpinning the course.

FINAL ESSAY

You are asked to submit a final essay that details the impact of VIBE for Middle leaders on your professional practice. This will be assessed against the Key Professional Standards  for Middle Leaders detailed below. You are expected to ask critical self reflective questions about yourself as a leader. Throughout this essay you should reflect upon your professional practice and development within your context .

You are expected to demonstrate critical reflection, depth and rigor in line with the below key Professional Standard for Middle Leaders.

2.2.2 Understand and demonstrate self-awareness and inspire and motivate others.

3.4.1 Develop and Sustain a range of inclusive and supportive relationships, processes and practices which promote a culture of self-evaluation in line with agreed strategic and operational priorities.

3.4.2 Develop and sustain the effective use of a wide range of robust and credible information to support and inform decisions and improvements across the school and learning community in line with agreed strategic and operational priorities.
