Adapting your style
Your natural style is not the be all and end all of your leadership style. Rather it is a temperature reading of how you are most likely to deal with a given situation. This does not mean it is always the best way to deal with a situation though. Developing awareness of your natural style allows you to understand when that style is helpful and unhelpful. Sometimes it can feel very uncomfortable taking a different approach but effective leadership depends upon it.
When to use each style:
Mentoring: Support others development Increases social confidence Help others develop personal and professional strategies, & mentoring. | Coaching: Empower others Increases staff engagement Improve individual performance Develop others strengths. |
Delegating: Empower others and builds trust Improves efficiency and productivity Gives others the ability to learn and develop new skills. | Dictator: Reduced impact of mistakes, Encourage short term productivity Make decisions quickly. |
