Do – Characteristics of a High Performing Team

When delivering this course in person, we are often met with certain teams over and over again – with good reason. When listing high performing teams these names regularly appear.

  • Manhattan Project
  • NHS
  • Beatles
  • Ants
  • F1 Pit Teams
  • Apple
  • Pixar
  • Chicago Bulls (with Michael Jordan)
  • Barcelona (Under Pep)
  • Man City (Under Pep!)

You may have identified some of these teams, or you may have something completely different – one time a delegate suggested the Mafia…

Looking at teams you have listed, and those above, what we would like you to do now is try to list the characteristics that they share – that allow them to work at such a high level.

Consider the following:

  • What common traits do you observe across these diverse teams?
  • How do they communicate and collaborate?
  • What seems to drive their success?
  • How do they handle challenges or setbacks?
  • What role does leadership play in these teams?

Take a few minutes to jot down 5-7 key characteristics that you believe contribute to the high performance of these teams.
