Why do you do what you do?
There are probably lots of reasons. To pay the bills and to put food on the table are acceptable responses but if you are looking to flourish, it helps to have something deeper driving you. So, grab a bit of paper and split it into three sections. Title the sections Why, How and What.
If you want you can start with what you do… most of us find that one pretty straightforward to answer. It is usually the ins and outs of your job. The functional stuff.
Once you’ve got that out the way think about the other two sections… Why do you do what you do and how do you do it?
When considering why you do, think about what it is that drives you. A desire to help people? A love of working with young people? A love of your subject? It could be many things.
Then think about how you actually do it. What behaviours and values guide your actions.
