Do

Words Matter

Your teacher may choose to do this activity individually, in pairs, small groups, or together as a class.

Take a sheet of paper.

First, scrunch it up in your hands.

Now smooth it back out.

Even though it looks flat again, you can still see the creases. As Charlotte states, that is what unkind words can be like. Even when we say sorry, they can still leave a mark.

Now, on that same piece of paper, write one sentence you would love to hear on a bad day. A sentence that would make you feel better. A sentence that might make a difference.

For example:
“I’m glad you’re here.”
“You matter.”
“Do you want to join us?”

When you are finished writing your kind sentence, fold your paper once and pass it to the front.

A few volunteers may be invited to read some of the sentences aloud.

How do they make you feel?

Remember, we all have the power to be the person who says the sentence someone needs to hear.

Kindness is a choice.
