Brand New Faces Join Team TOK!

By Team TOK

A brand new year welcomes some brand new faces… We’ve got a few new superheroes to introduce!

Meet Caroline, the latest speaker to join our speaking team…

1. What’s your favourite film and why?

Choosing my favourite film is a tough one. I love The Lost Boys, cult 80’s vampire film, I think I was 8 when I first saw it and I can still watch it again and again. I love the soundtrack and everything. It was my first horror type film. Though in saying that, I can’t handle horror films at all. I get scared even by trailers. On the flip side of this is Mary Poppins, I used to watch it nearly every day when I was tiny and I have a huge emotional attachment to it. The only time I’ve ever been starstruck was in Disney World when I met Mary Poppins – I couldn’t speak to her and I cried. I was 27. If I met Julie Andrews, there’s a high likelihood that my heart would just stop.

2. What did you want to be when you ‘grew up’?

I always wanted to be an actress or a presenter when I grew up. I was born knowing what I wanted to be! Then I got to school. I was told that that it was very unlikely so I should go into law or journalism or something, so I believed them for a while and I tried to pretend that I wanted to do something different, but that didn’t work, point me to the stage!

3. What’s your most favourite day of the week and why?

My favourite day of the week is actually Monday. I know, I know, it’s a weird one. Most people hate poor Mondays! There’re even several songs about how loathed it is, but I like it because it’s the start of things, everything lies ahead of you and you’re getting going. Yay for Mondays!

4. What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Best advice I’ve ever received is if you’re struggling to make a decision about whether to do something or not, ask your 70-year-old self what they would tell you to do. I do this all the time, it totally works and keeps me as the designer of my own life rather than making decisions based on what others may think.

5. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

If I had a super power it would be mind control. “Children… you want to tidy your room“, “Mr Bank Manager… you want to give me millions of pounds“. Now that would be awesome.

Flying would just wreck my hair and we live in Scotland, it would be cold and wet most of the time so that’s out.

6. When did you last feel inspired?

I am finding being here at Tree of Knowledge really inspiring. Just listening to everyone and their attitudes and what they want to do with the company and for the kids that they meet is nothing less than inspirational.

Welcome Sahir to the TOK Family. Sahir joins our Business Development team for Secondary and Further Education!

1. What’s your favourite film and why?

The Lion King – it was the first film I ever watched in the cinema and my cousins and I used to put the volume up to full and belt out ‘Circle of Life’ when we were kids until the neighbours complained!

2. What did you want to be when you ‘grew up’?

When I was 9 years old, I decided I wanted to be a lawyer because I loved (and still love) discussing ideas and endlessly debating issues. I even went on to study Law at University, but then realised that my real passion was for education, so I trained to be a Maths teacher and have worked in education ever since.

3. What’s your most favourite day of the week and why?

Sunday: for me, it’s a day for reading, relaxing and spending time with family – getting the mind, body and heart set up for a great week ahead.

4. Tell us your best joke!

Q: Why did the boy fall off his bike?

A: Because someone threw a fridge at him.

5. What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Just do it.

6. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

A perfect memory.

7. When did you last feel inspired?

I was recently inspired by the beautiful winter sunshine to go out for a walk down to the river Kelvin. On a bigger scale, I was inspired a few days ago by the achievements of the first ever female winner of the fearsome Spine Race – running 268 miles of the Pennine Way in January – and she only went and smashed the record by 12 hours, while stopping to express breast milk en route! Amazing.
