World Values Day 2018

By Alice Beveridge

“Effectiveness without values is like a tool without a purpose”

 Edward de Bono, 1933

Being values-driven is about more than customer engagement. It’s about being an organisation who truly cares about who they are and what they stand for. At Tree of Knowledge, we do our best to live by our five values every day. Passion, learning, innovation, fun and excellence are at the heart and soul of everything we do in trying to achieve our mission to Inspire the World.

We won’t lie, it’s not easy. It takes hard work, dedication and reflection across all aspects of Business to ensure that our values truly drive our decisions every day. In a corporate world where businesses thrive and fail based on the decisions that they make, ensuring that people’s health and well-being are protected can sometimes be overlooked. We find that being a value-driven business helps us to keep this in the forefront of our minds.

During the good times it’s easy but in the hard times, it’s more important than ever to ensure that your values are what wake you up in the morning. We aim to run a business based on the values that suit us most.

“The culture of a workplace – an organisation’s values, norms and practices – has a huge impact on our happiness and success”

Adam Grant

Passion is obvious. It’s about being truly committed and enthusiastic about what we do every day.

Learning is at the heart and soul of all our developments.

Fun is about finding flow in all that we do as well as making sure we have a bit of banter.

Innovation is about making sure we’re at the head of the curve and helping someone, or something, be better.

Excellence is about doing what we do to the best of our ability. Being reflective and ensuring that our behaviours and actions are in line with our values.

“With the right people, culture and values, you can accomplish great things”

Tricia Griffith

As a business, we endeavour to revisit our core values and behaviours throughout the year. It’s something that we collectively believe as a team, is what makes us different and unique. Every member of the TOK team shares these values and relates these to their individual roles on a daily basis. Albeit more may apply than others to the different roles, however, we strive to live by our values and feel that they help push us towards our vision: To Inspire the World.

“If we’re going to lead a life, if we’re going to lead anything, we should surely know where we are going, and why.”

In celebration of World Values Day, we ask what do you personally value? Do you live by these values and are they pushing you towards achieving any goals?
