Being Greener…

Practice what you preach. A phrase we didn’t come up with at Tree of Knowledge, but something we certainly believe in.

Within our wonderful team of people, we are usually very good at sticking to our values in life. We have avid gym-goers, committed learners, do-gooders and overall very friendly, nice people.

As a company, we have professional values that we stick to. We strive to go above and beyond expectations, always. We commit to a fun and educational delivery for all age ranges. We promote what we do with passion, belief and energy.

However, there is little doubt that over the years our commitment to the environment could have been better.

We were always conscious of our impact on the world, and certainly never particularly harmful. It has been agreed, however, that we could do better.

So, we will.

One of our major changes going into 2018 is to be a more environmentally-thoughtful company. From what we do to what we believe. From a company-wide strategy to individual day-to-day tasks. We can, and will, do better.

The fundamental principle of sustainability and being ‘green’ is to Reduce, Re-use, Recycle; in that specific order. So, with that in mind, we’ve started to make some changes; in that order.

We will use a smaller size of paper for the activities in our workshops. We will look at where we source our materials from. We will consider what we can do electronically as opposed to using materials.

A personal favourite will involve planting trees… obviously. We are very keen to reduce our carbon footprint, but once that is done we need to offset what is still there. In order to do that, we will be investing in a wonderful project that involves planting trees in Scotland to impact the environment in a more positive way.

I’m not going to list every single change we’re going to make here as that is not the main purpose of this blog. Although, it is great to tell the world that Tree of Knowledge will be getting a lot more environmentally-friendly.

The main purpose of this blog is that for many months and years now we have been thinking about how we could reduce our carbon footprint. However, from here on in, it’s all about what we will be doing.

With this blog also comes a challenge. By the end of whichever month you find yourself reading this, what one thing that you’ve always thought about doing can you actually start to do?

Take action; make it happen.
